Qualitative data analysis involves identifying themes and making meaning of non-numerical data, like results from focus groups, interviews, and open-ended survey questions. The meaning you make of qualitative data should seek to answer the evaluation questions you determined in your evaluation plan. Qualitative data analysis does not need to be complicated; it can be as simple as reviewing a transcript and underlining quotes with a pen. Use this worksheet to practice your qualitative data analysis skills by making meaning of a sample key informant interview transcript. This is also an excellent tool for evaluators to use when training or providing technical assistance to clients or partners on how to conduct qualitative data analysis.
